Biological interchange - The circulation of elements between organic and inorganic states in a soil or other substrate as a results of biological decomposition of organic compounds accomponied by liberation of inorganic materials (mineralisation) and the utilisation of inorganic materials accomponied by the synthesis of microbial tissue (immobilisation).
