Primary soil processes (USP) – Combination of interrelated physical, chemical and biological (i.e., individual pedogenic) processes that provides the formation of different soil properties. According to I.P. Gerasimov and M.A. Glazovskaya there are three groups of USP: 1) processes of soil organic matter transformation; 2) processes of transformation in the mineral part of soil; 3) distribution of soil substances.

The primary soil processes are known to appear due to chemical, biochemical and microbiological processes in soil. Chemical processes in soil are determined by the interrelationship between soil solution and organo-mineral substances (i.e., dissolution, hydration, hydrolysis, etc.). These reactions can proceed inside organo-mineral complexes and in the soil solution.
